Forced to join her family for the holidays, Haily settles down to a tropical cruise with too much alcohol and not enough company. While her sisters are trying to find their matches in the highest ranking magical families, Haily gets the buffet. Knocked into the ocean by chance, she finds herself surrounded by sharks and trapped in a war that revolves around her. Shocked into using her powers for the first time she grows gills, rides sharks and masters a magic that she didn't know she had.
Loki is the shark shifter Alpha and he takes Haily under his fin, showing her that she has nothing to fear about using her talents underwater, and that this is where she was designed to be. In the water, at his side.

Enjoy this Yuletide tale with sexy sharks, deadly dolphins and a water magus who learns to be herself in the nicest way.

Haily Holly Danvers is the misfit in her family, the one with imperfect magic. Joining her family on a tropical match-making cruise seems like a waste of time to her, since she is not what any of the magical families will be looking for. But she goes, and keeps an eye on her three very eligible sisters, at least until a magic blast gone astray knocks her overboard. She quickly realizes she isn’t in danger of drowning, because she has suddenly sprouted gills. Seems she is a water magus, and a strong one at that. No wonder her magic didn’t work right on dry land.

Rescued by shark shifters, she learns that the alpha shark, Loki, will be guarding and training her until she gets full control of all her talents. When a group of power hungry dolphin shifters attacks the cruise ship, Haily and the sharks go to the rescue, and things get stranger by the minute. Can Haily accept her new magic and stay where she is happy? Will she accept the role Loki offers, beside him? Is there any limit to what she can become?

Once again, Viola Grace has created unique and delightful characters. This is set in the world of the Nexus, but is stand alone without the usual characters. I enjoy trips to the imaginary worlds that Ms. Grace is so talented at creating. There are always new and interesting layers in these stories.

Haily has felt like she was outside looking in for most of her life. She has a self-deprecating sense of humor, and is surprised when she discovers the truth. I loved the sense of empowerment she gained when she found her true magic.

Loki is the alpha of the sharks, and it is his duty to train the water magus. Since Haily is the first in many years, he is delighted to help. He is a strong and powerful character, and is attracted to Haily. He is also a gentleman, and waits to make advances until he is more certain she will be receptive. I like his patience with Haily, and his way of helping her grow into her powers.

There is fun in this one, and laughter and a sweet romance. Haily begins as an innocent woman, but she decides she wants Loki for her own. There is also the threat from the less than nice dolphin shifters to deal with, and this is such a wonderful reversal of the normal ‘cute and funny’ image of them. This is an excellent addition to the Nexus world, and it is a wonderful romantic story. Is there a happy ever after for Haily and Loki? Well, you will have to read this one to find out.
