Reva has spent her life in servitude, her commanding voice her largest asset. When an Enjel swoops her off and away from her life as a nanny, she has a choice. Blinding and unfocused freedom, or life as a Sector Guard. Seer is her companion, and he wants to move up to lover, but as Order becomes comfortable with her new job, she has to think things through. She has to face her lack of education, social skills and romantic entanglements, and she has to do it fast before her Enjel loses patience.

Reva was born a slave on Geehoe Nine, and it is as a slave that Norelios Thalik of Engel finds her. She is the nanny to the brood of the Matriarch of Calor, chosen because of her talent for using her voice to control the actions of those around her.

Nor buys her from the Matriarch with the story that he wants her for breeding, when in fact, she is the newest recruit for the Sector Guard, the elite force of the Alliance. Nor has been tracking her for some time, searching for her and erasing her trail as he goes. So for once in her life, Reva is truly free. Unlike the other mated teams, she goes directly into service evacuating a team of scientists off of a dying planet, using her talent to “convince” those reluctant to leave. Nor gives her the code name Order, as he has foreseen that they will be Seer and Order in the guard. After some difficulty with the extraction of the scientists, they accomplish the mission, and proceed to Morganti to begin life in the Sector Guard.

This is my fourth visit to Viola Grace’s version of space, and I love it. She creates such colorful and amusing characters, each with a distinct personality and all so very engaging. I love the strength she gives all of her females and I love the abilities each one has. She makes each pair compatible without seeming to lose their individuality, and that is not easy to accomplish.

Each of the Sector Guard stories is a romance story, and also an adventure into new worlds. Ms. Grace puts the fantasy back in the romance as well, and I am anxiously awaiting the next chapter of this series. I hope that once she has her full team of twelve for the Sector Guard, she begins to write adventures for the whole team. I would love to see a long and happy future for the Sector Guard, as well as the happy ever after that each of her pairs has had thus far.

If you like science fiction with humor and romance this series is definitely the one for you.
