The Snow Queen has haunted the northern lands for generations using the temptation of a fabled paradise to lure men to their deaths. Can Barrow Tiln, a local farmer’s son melt her heart and set her free, or will she freeze his body and steal his soul?
Winter Queen is a riveting fairy tale with rich imagery and lovely language that reads like music.
The Winter Queen was once a rich princess. Betrothed to a price, she breaks off the engagement, having fallen for a commoner’s sweet songs and declaration of love. But her lover stole her dowry and the princess’ heart broke, no longer beating, and she became a winter fiend, seeking men to cross her bridge so she could use her wintry power to lure them to their deaths.
Barrow Tiln is just a simple farmer. When he comes near the bridge, he does not cross it but appears to be waiting. The Winter Queen is curious about this new victim and spares his life for a few minutes to listen to him. But will his words warm her heart or will he be another man she destroys?
Winter Queen is a wonderfully crafted story. A fairy tale with fantasy and romance, it is a story that young and old can read and enjoy. Betrayal, loss, hatred all war within the Winter Queen and despite her doubts, she feels the sweet temptation of love. Winter Queen is an inspiring story and a delightful read. I plan on reading the rest of the Seasons of Fantasy books now. Thank you, Ms. Dionne, for this excellent read.
