With Dragonia torn by civil war and the rebels winning the fight, it was only a matter of time before the dragon shifters focused on earth in their determination to take back what mankind had taken from them centuries before. The wizard Dylan Lightfoot was their only hope, the only capable of conjuring the spell they needed to defeat the rebels, and it was Grania’s duty to defend him at whatever cost.

She hadn’t suspected what it would cost her, though, would never have believed she would find her soul mate to be a wizard, not one of her kind.

When Grania, a dragon shifter, is assigned to protect a wizard, she does so even though dragons and wizards are enemies. Dylan Lightfoot isn’t pleased that a dragon shifter has come to protect him. He isn’t sure why because he’s been working on a spell to destroy dragons, and Grania Burns intends to see that he is able to use the spell. She wants Dylan to use his magic to stop the civil war in Dragonia that threatens to destroy her kind. More than that, she is surprised by the jolt of awareness in Dylan’s presence. Neither Grania nor Dylan are prepared for the fire that ignites between them. Grania realizes Dylan is her soul mate, but even though she burns for the mating between them, she questions how this could be. She tries to keep her thoughts focused on the task at hand, destroying the evil leader of the Dragon resistance—her father.

This is an enjoyable tale. Ms. Matthews has created an interesting fantasy world and the lore that goes with it. Grania is a strong heroine who has to conquer her own inner battles before dealing with the external ones. She finally realizes she can’t fight her fate and marries Dylan, her one true soul mate. Dylan is an alpha male hero who puts up a fight for the woman he loves. This is a great book to snuggle up with on a cold day. Marly Matthews has once again has penned a delightful story.
