NAME: Emily Beale
RANK: Captain
MISSION: Fly undercover to prevent the assassination of the First Lady, posing as her executive pilot.

NAME: Mark Henderson, code name Viper
RANK: Major
MISSION: Undercover role of wealthy, ex-mercenary boyfriend to Emily

Their jobs are high risk, high reward:

Protect the lives of the powerful and the elite at all cost. Neither expected that one kiss could distract them from their mission. But as the passion mounts between them, their lives and their hearts will both be risked...and the reward this time may well be worth it.

Normally flying in and out of danger, the new assignment for Captain Emily Beale is not what she expects. And then starts the mystery in The Night Is Mine, a first book in a new romantic suspense series. Is the world ready for Captain Emily Beale? Because ready or not, here she comes.

Is it really still a man's world out there? Emily is angry about the way she's being treated, especially after a segment featuring her doesn't show the exciting parts of her career. Emily is fierce, brave, and a woman I would want watching my back if ever need be. She knows how to stay on the outskirts of danger.

The hero of the book is Major Mark Henderson. My first impression of him wasn't all that great. He redeems himself towards the end of the book, but in a way at first I was hoping Emily would end up with someone else.

For a suspense book, the action didn't really pick up until a few chapters in. But once that happened, it turned into a good story. The cast of characters all had their mysterious appeal to them, and it was questionable why Emily was chosen for the job of protecting the First Lady, when she's usually in the captain's seat of an aircraft. There is a history between Emily and the President, which had me wondering.

Despite a slow start, The Night is Mine is filled with quite a bit of suspense and intrigue. It was interesting to see Emily's reaction to being a bodyguard and undercover when it's normally not her thing, but she pulled it off well.

If you enjoy a romantic suspense with a military feel, then don't miss your chance to read The Night is Mine.
