Max just wanted to have a night out with her cousin and go home. As a plus sized lass she didn't fit in amongst the tiny blonde gazelles, but protecting her cousin from a perv in the alley changed her fate. In a moment of self preservation when a man started chewing on her neck, she bit the hand over her mouth, setting a paranormal chemical reaction into play. Now that she is infected with his blood, he either needs to turn her or destroy her. The vampire tribunal chips in with an option for Max. She can rescue their kidnapped Guild Master, and he will decide her fate. Sounds like the best deal of the evening.
There is nothing worse than being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Just ask Max Munroe. She agreed to go with her cousin Tabby to a bridal shower, and look where that got her. When she found some guy nibbling on Tabby’s neck in the alley, she got more than she bargained for, and when he started on Max’s neck, she bit him back, starting a strange chemical reaction. Now Max is an Abomination, and her fate lies in the hands of Gregori, the Guild Master of the local vampires. A Guild Master who just happens to be missing, and only an Abomination can rescue him from certain death. Can Max locate Gregori before the Burning Man ceremony? What sentence will Gregori hand down for Max’s future? Can a vampire and an Abomination find happiness together?
Every time I pick up a Viola Grace book, I find a world of entertainment and delight. This is no exception. The main characters in this are folks we’ve met in secondary roles in this world of the Nexus. Now they get their own story.
Max is a great character. She has a sense of humor about herself, and she knows who and what she is, at least until she becomes the Abomination. She knows she is a BBW, and she doesn’t let people push her around. She is smart, and sassy, and quick witted. She grasps what is needed from her, and manages to get it done. I loved that she is the one who saves Gregori’s behind more than once.
Gregori is hot. Of course, he sees the real Max, and finds her to his liking. I was happy that he didn’t give up on her; he just kept on trying until he broke through her protective shell. I also found it terrific that he was up front with her, letting her know he preferred women of stature, rather than “tiny little things”.
There is a bit of intrigue in this, with a plot to get rid of Gregori, and I thoroughly enjoyed the unique method Ms. Grace uses to exact justice on the villain of the story. This is a fun story, with twists and surprises, and a wonderful happy ever after.
