All she wanted was a quiet, normal life...but you don't always get what you want. Lilian Quinn came to this remote town to start a new life. No one knew she had escaped from Custodes Secreti, a secret organization dedicated to using people with strange abilities for their own ends. All she wanted was a quiet, normal existence. Even if it meant living a lie. Matthias Romulus was content to be the Alpha werewolf of the local pack, until he bumped into Lilian. Powerfully drawn to her, he stepped in to help her when the Custodes Secreti tracked her down. He didn't know she was trained in much more than waiting tables. With Lilian's murderous ex-boyfriend coming after her and secret agents on her trail, the strange dreams she's been having are only the beginning. Matthias has problems of his own with his pack giving ultimatums. Can a psychic woman and an alpha wolf come together to resolve the issues of their hearts -- and the issues of their continued survival?

Will Lilian ever come to terms with her powers?

Lilian is a woman with amazing courage and inner strength, but she has never been comfortable in her own skin. When Lilian was a young girl, she discovered she had certain psychic abilities. The Custodes Secreti got their hands on her and held her captive for most of her childhood. However, Lilian refused to be their pawn and escaped when she was eighteen. Unfortunately, she fell into the hands of an abusive man. Again, Lilian proved to be more powerful than anyone expected when she escaped that relationship. Now, she lives in a small town working as a waitress and wants nothing more than to forget about her powers and live a simple and normal life.

Lilian is simply unable to blend in. The Custodes Secreti agents soon discover her hiding place and will do anything to catch her, but there are other forces who want to harness Lilian’s power for their own use. However Lilian is not alone. She runs into Matthias, a sexy werewolf with a bad boy image. Lilian and Matthias are immediately drawn to each other. Matthias is sure that Lilian is destined to be his mate, but Lilian resists the attraction. At this point Lilian’s strength and self reliance becomes a flaw. She has never been able to depend on another living soul, so she immediately suspects Matthias and his offer to help her. With evil forces closing in on her, Lilian must embrace her developing powers and learn to let others help her or risk losing everything.

Lilian and Matthias are a powerful couple. They are strong, loyal, and very smart. However, because they both have such dominant personalities, they clash quite a bit. The physical attraction they have for each other is intense and the emotional connection becomes just as deep. However, both are reluctant to admit they love each other. If their relationship is going to survive, they are both going to need to learn to soften up a bit.

I did have one small issue with the story. Though it is clear that Lilian and Matthias belong together, it never seemed like they had time to really get to know each other. They faced crisis after crisis together, but never seemed to be able to take a moment to enjoy each other’s company. While Matthias is a good man, he pushed for a physical relationship with Lilian before explaining that this would make her his mate. I found this a little disappointing. Lilian was understandably upset, but, in my opinion, forgave him a bit too quickly for changing her life forever without asking her first.

Despite this issue, Moonlight and Magick is great read. It is filled with strong characters, interesting new worlds, and of course magic. Moonlight and Magick starts off at a run and doesn’t slow down until the last page. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. Anyone looking for a fast paced fantasy will surely want to check out Moonlight and Magick.
