Laura and Caleb were teenage sweethearts. Then Laura disappeared, leaving nothing behind but a simple note.

Now she’s back, a street smart cop on the trail of an underground child sex slave operation right in the heart of New York City and she’s been sent to Caleb’s division to help bring down one of the most reprehensible men in the country. When the old lovers are partnered up, can they put their old hurts aside to do their jobs and save the children?

They were high school sweethearts destined to be together forever but then something happens, and Laura can’t cope with the outcome. Their bond destroyed, Laura leaves without a word, without ever telling Caleb the truth and his world crumbles. Years later, both police detectives, they are forced to work together on a child prostitution case. As the two characters grow close during the course of the investigation, it becomes obvious how important communication is, and how much hurt could have been prevented with only a few words.

E. Jaime does a wonderful job of portraying the love between Caleb and Laura, and the loss both suffered with Laura’s desertion. The emotions are very visible and poignant.

The author makes excellent use of flashback scenes and the last few chapters have such a deep impact, I found my heart clenching with Laura and Caleb’s pain. I continually was asking myself questions, wondering - What was Laura hiding? What made her run from Caleb? Why? All of my questions were answered and more by the time I was done reading. The ending was very strong and almost felt like a different story. The police procedures and language felt a bit forced and weird, as though the lingo was found in TV shows and movies, rather than through the police themselves.

If you reunited love, and stories that will make your heart pound with strong passion then the love between Caleb and Laura will certainly delight you.
