When you're in love, magical things can happen.

Magic is a big part of Claire Mahoney’s life, but that gift comes with the burden of a curse. The man she marries will die a month after the wedding. A gifted landscaper, she beautifies people’s gardens but is missing the light of love in her own life.

Michael Finnegan swears he will never be romantically involved again, not after the death of his wife. His daughter, Rachel, is of another mind when they move next door to Claire, whom she suspects is a witch. Rachel also begins to look up to Claire as another mother, thwarting Michael's desire to remain casual and distant from his new neighbor.

Sparks fly and the magic of true love follows. But when the curse rears its ugly head, will Michael and Claire be destined to never live happily ever after again?

Claire Mahoney has magic in her soul. In her tiny Irish village, she’s the one they turn to for help. Her fairy gardens have brought love, luck and happiness to many in the town, just like her mother and grandmother before her. But it comes at a price. The Mahoney women are cursed to never know lasting love. If they marry the man they love, he will die less than a year later.

Claire has a new neighbor, and Michael Finnegan is everything she has ever dreamed of in a man. Michael is a widower with a daughter, and the last thing he plans on is to fall in love again. But that is before he meets Claire. His daughter Rachel wants a new mother and brothers and sisters, so she schemes to throw them together every chance she gets. Claire wants Michael, but doesn’t want to make him the latest victim of the Mahoney curse. Can Claire find a way to break the curse and be happy with Michael? Will Michael finally let go of the memories of Katie, his dead wife, and move on with Claire? Can Michael, Rachel and Claire truly become a family?

Susan Palmquist has created a marvelous world, filled with lively and enchanting characters. Claire is a strong and determined woman; when she sees what she wants, she goes for it. Once she realizes how she feels about Michael, she decides that she will never marry him. No marriage means he won’t fall victim to her family curse.

But Michael is smart and determined too, and he wages a campaign to get Claire where he knows she belongs: in his home as his wife. When he enlists the whole town in a scheme to bring happiness to Claire like she has given to everyone else, it is delightful.

This is a love story, pure and simple. I enjoyed the “will they or won’t they” aspect of the story. I don’t want to spoil the ending for anyone, so I will just say that Claire and Michael get their happy ever after, but only after a couple of surprise twists in the storyline. I recommend this for the young at heart, as well as for those looking for a sweet and sensual romance.
