When Justine Diamond met football player Zachary Wayne aboard a cruise ship, it was like a sweet dream--and just as unreal. As fast as she fell in love, he disappeared. And she thought she would never see him again…
But Zack didn't leave her. His sudden departure was due to an emergency. Now he just has to convince Justine of this--if he can find her first. But Justine is not so willing to take chances, let along grant second ones. And when Zack waltzes into the Nebraska pet shop owned by Justine, he has to win her trust--to win her heart. Perhaps a little bird or two will help him…
It Takes Two is a delightful romance in which the hero and heroine share page time with a cursed warlock and witch, husband and wife lovebird pair. If Mini and Reuben (the lovebirds) want to return to their natural forms, they’ll have to reunite Zach and Justine as the soul mates they are. The result is a thoroughly enjoyable story that is both uplifting and humorous, with enough emotion and laughter to warm the heart.
The premise is fairly simple, which works with the twists and turns provided by the characters. Zach and Justine met on a cruise a year before. Sparks flew, passions ignited, and they became lovers. Then, in an unforeseen turn of events, Zach was forced to leave the ship early, and his message to Justine never found its way to her. One year later, and Zach has arrived in Justine’s town, coaching the football team until the usual coach returns. There is a double motive for his arrival, aside from the fact he wants to teach football as he can no longer play professionally. He wants to know why Justine never contacted him after all they shared, unaware that she assumes he was the one that left her without a backward glance.
What happens next is one comical occurrence after another. Just when you think things can’t possibly get messier, something else happens. The timing is perfect, and each new obstacle is more outrageous than the next. Bringing Justine and Zach together isn’t going to be easy, and Mini and Reuben, for all their efforts, only seem to make things worse. If the lovebirds want to lock lips – not beaks – with one another in the future, they’ll have to make this assignment work and bring two restless souls together in love and happiness.
Ms. Smythe has a knack for writing snappy dialogue and laugh-out-loud funny scenes that you can envision as you read them. The sexual tension between Zach and Justine is super-steamy, but it’s the hiccups along the way that make this story a must read. All of the characters are well developed, and you’ll fall in love with each and everyone one of them. There are so many different things taking place, but it never becomes taxing. Rather, you care about what happens to all of those involved, and want them all to get their happily ever after.
Fans of quirky paranormal romance will love It Takes Two.
