Since her husband's death, Grace Diaglo has been sleepwalking through life. That is, until her husband's ex-partner shows up just in time to become her impromptu bodyguard when a peeping Tom is spotted outside her bathroom window. Grace isn't sure who she's more afraid of, the man trying to see her naked or the one she's started picturing that way.

Ex-Chicago cop, Cord Rawlings, intends to find his partner's killer. What he doesn't count on is an intense attraction to the dead man's wife or the corruption a probe into his friend's death uncovers—an investigation that has the pair dodging bullets to stay alive. Will he be able to keep Grace safe or have they become the targets of the last person either of them suspected?

Former policeman Cord Rawlings, devastated by his partner Vince Diaglo’s death, cannot face Vince’s widow, the pure and loving Grace for many months. After six months of trying to drown his guilt and grief in alcohol, he decides he must find who killed Vince in that fiery car explosion. A loner and never accepted by his colleagues at the Ninth Precinct, he has his work cut out for him.

Grace Diaglo goes through the motions of living with no signs of emerging from the protective cocoon she’s woven around herself since Vince’s death. However, her emotions surface decidedly, when Cord approaches her after having so pointedly ignoring her after Vince’s death. She is so angry, but she soon finds her life and his are entangled as he strives to protect her from danger that seems tied to Vince in some way. Though gentle and kind, Grace shows a completely different side of her personality when pushed to the limit--she is truly remarkable 'under fire'.

Emily, Grace’s sister, brings a delightful humor to the story. She supports but also prods Grace to wake up and take advantage of the opportunity to love and be loved by a “hunk” of a man that Emily is sure is in love with her obstinate sister. Emily’s antics add a sparkle to GRACE UNDER FIRE.

Jerri Drennen weaves a cast of characters into this love story that create complications and conflicts every whipstitch. The mystery, suspense, and intrigue keep the reader turning pages. However, the love story has the reader slowing down to savor the tingling heat, sensitized skin, and the pure sexual energy that exhilarates.
