Marti Bell is facing the prospect of a very unmerry Christmas. Reluctantly leaving her married lover, she travels toward ice, snow, and judgmental family until a magic Santa sends her to a surprise destination in the warm waters of the Caribbean. Wherever Island would be paradise, except the only place to stay is the beachside cottage of gorgeous globetrotting photographer Cliff Holmes. Cliff wants to unwind and treat Marti to a little romantic Caribbean Christmas fun but she’s determined to stay in the warm ocean and out of hot water.
For some Christmas is magical. All they want is the love of their family surrounding them. The gifts, the shopping, the weather all adds to that magic, while for others…
Well let’s say for many others Christmas emphasizes the opposite. It magnifies the aloneness. Shopping becomes a chore; nit-picking relatives are a penance to be endured, and office parties something to avoid at all costs, as are well meaning and genuine friends who offer invitations to join them for the festivities. But some offers are too good to turn down, and her lover, Ben Clawson’s offer to drive her to the airport was too good for Marti to turn down.
So, nothing unusual in that, perhaps. But not everything is what it seems. A missed plane connection forces Marti to make a choice and when, indifferently, she says ‘wherever’ the booking clerk takes her seriously.
Out of hurt anger and humiliation rises a new tomorrow, one unforeseen, full of wishful dreams that fall into place in the most unusual; circumstances.
Cliff Holmes is a man haunted by his past and he scurries back to his favourite retreat to await his Christmas companion. When, due to an accident, she fails to show, Cliff discovers the magic of Wherever Island has not finished with him yet.
Can Marti and Cliff let go of their past enough to recognise the potential of their future? Read this charming Christmas story to find out.
