Nick Rawlins’s desperate need for rest from his job as County Medical Examiner is interrupted when he accepts an offer to search for the missing daughter of a prominent local man. This quest takes him to the Adriatic Coast of Italy.

He finds raven-haired Krista Vincent recovering from an attempt on her life and they are thrown into close proximity by his vow to protect her from increasing death threats. Krista is not going to take protection easily because she came to Italy on her own search, a link to her past.

Tested by desires they can’t deny, Nick’s confirmed bachelorhood teeters as they fall into perilous events which threaten both of their lives.

Krista’s father describes her as responsible, assertive, loving, and street smart. Even though she is in her late twenty’s and on her own, he is worried since he has not heard from her in weeks. He hires Dr. Nick Rawlins, a medical doctor and private investigator with ties in Italy where Krista is supposed to be.

Nick is going on extended leave to his family’s villa on the Adriatic. He decides looking for Krista would be a restful change from his medical examiner’s job. Restful is hardly the word for what he finds along the shores of the Adriatic. Nick finds her in a nightclub doing free form dancing about lust and love. His gorgeous body comes alive with need. When she is shot at the end of the dance, he goes to the hospital with her as her fiancĂ©.

Cierra James takes the reader along on Nick and Krista’s adventure with hardly time to catch one’s breath as gun shots, clandestine meetings, smuggling, and life-threatening events give little time for love to steal into the hearts of the hero and heroine—but love finds a way.

The secondary characters, the setting, and the story of happenings long ago that connect Krista and Nick to the villa make MIDNIGHT COVE an intriguing tale that never lags.

Cierra James’ writing style, fast-paced yet smooth, makes MIDNIGHT COVE a joy to read. She creates a mysterious, exciting setting for the story within the story that emerges then ties Nick and Krista to the characters of long ago in a unique way. This one is a real page-turner.
