In this sexy, funny paranormal romance by bestselling author Linda Wisdom, it's all beautiful witch Blair Fitzpatrick can do to keep a lid on her talent for revenge spells, but things are about to get a lot more complicated...
Blair loves running her vintage shop and hanging out with witchy friends Stasi and Jazz. She's forever had a crush on hunky carpenter Jake Harrison, whose Were nature (he's a Border collie) makes him loyal, lovable, and fierce when need be. Just as sparks are beginning to fly, Blair is served with a big surprise when Jake's mother shows up along with his pack leader, who threatens to make Jake heel! When the alpha does the unthinkable, Blair is pushed over the edge. No one messes with her boyfriend-to-be, even if he does shed on the furniture!
This story didn't have quite as much drama and peril and danger as the previous three, but the romance and the characters made up for what the plot itself lacked. We pick up the romance between Blair and Jake where we left off in the last book -- but don't worry if you haven't read the rest of the series, this book would stand alone pretty well.
I love Ms. Wisdom's ability to take an idea and twist it so that it's not quite like any other version we've seen. A border collie were? Really? Of course, Jake's nature is what sets him apart from the rest of his pack -- he's carrying a recessive gene and is an embarrassment to them. And, though witches and weres never intermingle, the attraction between Jake and Blair is strong, solid and undeniable.
Jake is hot-hot-hot and such a sweetie, thoughtful and kind, strong and intelligent, I was torn between wanting to pinch his cheeks and grab his butt! I fell totally in love with him.
And then there's Blair. She's a ball of emotion with some self-control problems -- but when she's on your side you never have to worry about where her loyalty lies. She's sweet, loving and sexy, and not afraid to go after what she wants.
Add in Fluff and Puff as tattoos (not bunny slippers!), a few more ghosts than usual, some highly unusual elves on loan from Santa (I have to admit, after being more than repulsed by the elves at first, they became my favorite secondary characters!) and you have more than enough fun to go around.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book for so many reasons and on so many levels. It's fun, it's sassy, it's sexy, and it's oh-so well-written. The heat between Jake and Blair sparks off the page, and the wit and sarcasm kept me grinning. The characters are well-rounded and every one (even the "walk-ons") are unique.
I can't wait to see what Linda Wisdom does next. This book has made an absolute fan-girl of me.
