Amidst the upheaval of Cromwell's Britain, Jamie Sinclair's wit and military prowess have served him well. Leading a troop in Scotland, he impetuously marries a captured maiden, saving her from a grim fate.

A Highlands heiress to title and fortune, Catherine Drummond is not the woman Jamie believes her to be. When her people effect her rescue, and he cannot annul the marriage, Jamie goes to recapture his hellcat of a new wife...

In a world where family and creed cannot be trusted, where faith fuels intolerance and war, Catherine and Jamie test the bounds of loyalty, friendship, and trust...

Take a step back into time, into the highlands of Scotland and the bowels of London for an intense story packed with action and passion to live through the ages. Highland Rebel is loaded with historical politics and fine gowns, kings and queens, war and love.

Jamie Sinclair is an Englishman who falls in and out of favor with the British kings of the time. He has a sharp wit and an active mind. A jack of all trades, he can pass for a nobleman one minute and a tinker the next. He’s an amusing and light hearted character, sure to endear himself to you within pages. Jamie reminded me an awful lot of my husband, minus the spying and whoring, that is, with his wisecracks and easy-going nature. However, underneath that nice-guy exterior, he has a darker secret, and a darker past, just waiting to make itself known.

Catherine Drummond, on the other hand, is a handful and a half. Heiress to the clan Drummond, Cat is a fiery hellcat of a woman. Proud, strong, determined… she will let nothing get in her way. Cat has a softer side as well, a desire to learn and to grow, to become more than just a chieftain’s wife. Having been raised by her father to rule their clan, she is ousted by the people in favor of her cousin, Donald. Realizing she’ll never have the chance to rule her clan like she was destined, she turns towards her pseudo-husband for another chance at a life of freedom.

Highland Rebel is a love story in the truest sense. Cat and Jamie come together under the strangest of circumstances and are married to essentially save her life. And while it seems nearly impossible that two such polar opposites could ever really live and love, their adventures and honesty with one another build a foundation for the love of the century. A heartwarming and daring story of the past, it’s sure to please.

I love Judith James! She's one of the bett new authors to grace the romance genre in years.

She's an amazing talent and Highland Rebel carries on the tradition of excellence she began with her debut novel, Broken Wing!

Thanks very much, Cholla for a lovely and thoughtful review. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I was rather in love with Jamie myself and when you said he reminded you of your husband my first thought was "Oh you lucky girl!"

Julianne, Lisa and Pat, what can I say? You guys are great!
