Covered with burn scars, having lost an eye and a thumb in a nearly fatal accident, Luke Morgan's days as a ladies' man are over. But his bitterness, far more than his injuries, threatens to tear apart his family and their business.

Things happen for a reason, whether it’s a chance meeting, a dropped grocery item, or an explosion. It’s what we do with those chances that makes or breaks our lives. That’s the story of Healing Luke.

Ms. Cornelison writes a poignant story filed with hope, laughter, and a few tears. Her characters face challenges, but never give up. The novel tugs at your heart and doesn’t let go even past the last page.

I liked that the main characters, Abby and Luke had issues and not just physical issues. We can all relate to their struggles. The explosion took his eye and thumb and left him burned. A cheating fianc├ęs took her trust and love and left her heart scalded. Both needed to learn how to trust and love again.

This novel made the reader think. How would you handle a life-changing situation where all the things you held dear were ripped away? How would you move on? Would you be able to? Adversity doesn’t always mean you must give up or give in. It means you better want to fight for what you want.

The secondary characters helped make this story touching as well. Nothing in life is ever simple. When the accident took place, other issues in Luke’s life came to the forefront, such as his idol-worship of his brother and the fact that he never forgave his mother for leaving when he was a child.

I love a story that makes me think and makes me feel for the individuals. I love a story that makes me root for the characters to grow and change for the better. This novel delivers.

If you want a sweet story of growth and understanding sprinkled with a hint of sex, then Healing Luke is the novel for you. I give this lovely story 5 books.
