Ruttgar von Hohenfels returns from war, only to find his castle usurped by a greedy uncle, who now wants him dead. Shot in the back as he tries to escape his uncle’s clutches, he heads deeper into the forest with the soldiers in hot pursuit.

Kitt travels the countryside with her brothers Oxnard and Oxley, entertaining the gentry with their acrobatic skills. Their way of life changes abruptly, when a rider crashes through the underbrush. The arrow in his back and soldiers in hot pursuit bring back the dark memories of the secret surrounding their sister’s birth. Refusing to take the easy way out, the brothers come to Ruttgar’s aid. When they offer to help him recapture his birthright, they do not realize that their bargain puts Kitt’s life in jeopardy.
The ultimate gift is to give one’s life in order to save another. In Heide Katros novel The Cabochan Ring, the lives of others are what motivates the characters to act and react. Want to know more? Then read The Cabochan Ring.

Ms. Katros writes a compelling novel. When you enter the world of Kitt, Oxley, and Oxnard, you feel like you’re really going back in time to the 11th century. The scenes are rich, drawing the reader into the story. You feel their joys and sorrows and want to see them succeed in their endeavors.

Kitt’s never known the origin of her birth. She doesn’t know her parents. When she meets and helps to rescue the ruggedly handsome Ruttgar, little does she know her world will fall on its ear. I enjoyed watching such a strong woman get along in the world at a time when women were considered little better than arm candy. I enjoyed seeing her give Ruttgar a run for his money. I also liked the protectiveness of Kitt’s brothers, Oxnard and Oxley.

If you want a spicy historical that will make you think and make you feel, then The Cabochan Ring is the novel for you. I give this work 4 books.
