Crushed by betrayal, Belle Winkworth-Jones flees the shambles of her short-lived marriage, only to be kidnapped by a vicious rebel solider determined to keep her for himself. Nick Andreakos mounts a ruthless rescue to save the wife who walked away from him, even though he's resentful Belle could dismiss their marriage so easily.
Belle Winkworth-Jones is a woman with secrets. Secrets, that if discovered by her captors would create political scandals across continents. Belle's caring and somewhat naive personality contrasts with the guerrilla leader, Mwana's evil. But she's still capable of thinking on her feet, when she discovers her captor knows her true identity. Still prepared to do what she has to save the lives of her fellow hostages. After all, unlike her, they have people who care for them to go back to.
When Nikolaos Andreakos discovers his run-away wife is missing he establishes his own private mercenary army to rescue her.
Maya Blake creates a totally believable scenario with well rounded characters with her use of amazing visual word pictures, and takes her readers to the caves, makes them feel the heat, and smell the dirt. She uses actions to convey the impact of Belle and Nick's emotions, and through them, those of the other supporting characters.
Ms. Blake transports her characters and readers to various locations with a vibrancy that bounces off the page. The contrasts of Nick's determination to woo his wife back into his bed and their marriage is equaled only by Mwana's determined pursuit to wreak vengeance on the woman who got away, and the man who rescued her.
Nick and Belle are forced to face major inner and outer challenges before Ms. Blake finally allow them to come together in their own wonderful 'happy ever after'.
I am delighted to have come across Maya Blake's writing and will look out for more of her books. If you like action, suspense and romance all wrapped in one cover, then I suggest you seriously consider adding this book to your collection.
