Was she a second chance at love—
or his golden opportunity for revenge?
Sebastian Cade, reclusive Duke of Rutland, has gone to great lengths to withdraw from the London society he’s come to despise. Still reeling from betrayal and tragedy, he finds himself powerfully attracted to his
lovely new raven-haired ward—so much so that he begins to question the last five years of his life.
When Julia Deveraux awakens in the Duke’s rose garden, the memories flood back. A betrothal she detests. The great black horse stolen from her father. Her near escape … Now under Sebastian’s care, she sees the rumors of his disfigurement are far from true. But will her secret connection to his sworn enemy tear them apart before love brings them together?
In this intriguing historical, when a young woman seeks to avoid an arranged marriage by fleeing town, she finds more than she expected when she stumbles onto the property of a reclusive and handsome Duke.
The reclusive Sebastian Cade, Duke of Rutland, does his best to avoid London and society so when an injured young woman arrives on his property he is reluctant to get involved. But he is taken with Julia Deveraux and takes her under his care as she seeks refuge from an unwanted betrothal. But Julia’s connection to someone from the past that still haunts the Duke threatens to ruin whatever relationship might be between the couple.
With rich, vivid descriptions the author draws you into the story and makes one feel as though you are there. I was immediately taken with this story and the characters, particularly Sebastian, the hero of the story.
Haunted and greatly affected by an incident from his past that has changed him, Sebastian guards his heart carefully. As he gets to know Julia, for the first time someone is able to break through his defenses and make him feel again. I enjoyed watching the transformation that he goes through and especially enjoyed the relationship that develops between the pair as they banter back and forth. They share a playful relationship, even in bed, that I enjoyed a great deal, but they face some difficulties as a common enemy seeks to keep them apart.
The enemy and Sebastian’s past was an interesting twist, if a bit of a coincidence, that I didn’t see coming, but I felt really added to the overall story and my enjoyment. The plot flowed smoothly and I enjoyed each new revelation as the story moved forward.
Reckless Liasons is a wonderful story that should please fans of fast-paced and intriguing historicals. While this may have been the first book I read by Kayleigh Jamison, it certainly won’t be my last!
