Wealthy hotel owner Alexander Colin King wants a child and heir. He is used to getting what he wants and he wants Megan Moore for the mother of his baby. Alex knows he can make his proposal easier if he takes a more traditional approach, but he will be honest with Megan. No courting, no wine and roses. This is going to be a business proposal.
When Alex presents her with his business proposal, Megan at first thinks he's asking her to be a surrogate mother, but he quickly makes it clear he intends to create a child the traditional way.
In this well-written story what starts as a business arrangement becomes much more as a young woman is willing to do anything to protect the daughter that she loves…even marry her boss.
When Megan Moore’s young daughter becomes ill and is in need a surgery that she can not afford, she doesn’t know what she is going to do. Her boss Alexander Colin King quickly steps in and makes her an offer she can ill afford to turn down…provide him with a child and heir and he’ll take care of the costs of the healthcare. With her only other option to become an escort, Megan sees no other choice. Things get more complicated as Megan realizes that Alex isn’t just looking for a surrogate mother, he wants a wife and to create the baby the old-fashioned way. Alex has his work cut out for him as he works to convince her to take him up on his proposal.
I really felt for the characters of this story as they worked to overcome the difficulties and strain that their arrangement places on them. Megan is a wonderful and complex character who is willing to do anything to take care of her child. You can’t help but feel for her as she faces the complications that come with marrying Alex, caring for her daughter, and keeping herself detached from her new husband. She also has a few secrets and a past that has greatly affected her and her life. Her arrangement with Alex is a lot to adjust to and she barely has time to get used to the situation as her life is turned upside-down.
As for Alex, he too is haunted by his past and has a few secrets of his own that have led him to propose this business arrangement. But as he gets to know Megan and her daughter, he finds it difficult to maintain that professional façade and begins to care for them both. But they both have a lot of issues to deal with throughout the story which makes for one interesting and complicated relationship.
While "For Love or Money" features a marriage-of-convenience premise that has been done countless times before, I enjoyed this author’s take on the premise and the surprises and twists she threw in with the characters and their relationship with one another.
"For Love or Money" is a extremely pleasurable story filled with characters you can’t help but come to love.
