Sara Chandler has come to the big island of Hawaii to escape her troubled past and find peace in this place all the guidebooks call "Paradise." Lucas Henshaw is the first obstacle in her path to happiness. But he's not the last…

Escaping an abusive marriage, Sara finds her place of beauty and peace in Hawaii, but an undercurrent of evil creeps in and threatens not only her but also the friends she has grown to love. Although wealthy, beautiful, and a successful artist, Sara is remarkably naïve and vulnerable.

Lucas Henshaw first appears to be a macho hothead who needs anger management therapy but he redeems himself magnificently as the story unfolds. He tenaciously clings to the past as he strives to keep a promise he made to his dead wife, more out of a sense of guilt than love. He and Sara are at cross-purposes immediately but soon find they have an undeniable need for each other.

Carolyn Le Comte creates distinctive secondary characters, some truly evil, other vindictive, or negative, while others, though flawed, are caring individuals. Little Emmy, Lucas’ daughter, is a jewel that shines brightly through the story.

The reader can almost feel the vibes from these characters as they interact with each other, while the skillful description of the different environments in which the characters function create the mood from pure joy to horrifying terror. Each character has his or her own agenda, which creates a maze of intriguing events. Carolyn Le Comte weaves the events into a heart-stopping climax before Sara and Lucas find their way to each other.

Dark Paradise is exciting at times and lovingly emotional at other times—TRULY ENJOYABLE READING.
