Vanessa Beaumont is desperate to protect her beloved thoroughbred, Ransom, from her ex-husband’s clutches. Intent on hiding Ransom at her friend’s farm hidden in the mountains of Pennsylvania, Vanessa falls short of her destination when she collides with a deer during a summer storm and is forced to rely on the kindness of a stranger to help protect her horse. What she didn’t count on was her own attraction to him or the ease with which she fits into his life. Sheriff Riley Whitaker thinks nothing of the consequences when he opens his home to Vanessa, but finding out her ex is out to get her spurs Riley’s protective nature. Before long, Riley can’t picture his life without Vanessa in it. When Vanessa’s vindictive ex-husband discovers her whereabouts, placing her life in danger, Riley knows he’ll puts his own life on the line to protect the woman he loves.

Featuring strong characters and a touching romance, Ransomed Heart is one you won’t want to miss.

Hooked from the very first page, I became lost in this story of a woman desperate to protect her prized horse and a Sheriff who longs to protect her. Vanessa Beaumont wants nothing more than to keep her horse, Ransom, safe from her scheming and abusive ex so she has fled home with the animal, but an accident derails her journey and leads her straight into the arms of Sheriff Riley Whitaker. As Vanessa and her horse Ransom recover from the accident at Riley’s home, Riley and Vanessa grow closer. And when Riley learns of Vanessa’s reasons for running, he understandably wants to protect her at all costs.

Both Vanessa and Riley have some emotional scars from past relationships and I really enjoyed watching as these two wounded souls found peace with one another. Vanessa does have some reasonable doubts and concerns, but she and Riley are perfect for one another and it is obvious they truly care about each other. The couple faces quite a few obstacles involving exes, jealous individuals, and danger. Each well-written obstacle that they face and overcome seems to make their relationship even stronger and even though Vanessa fights it, Riley is determined to make her his.

While the romance of the story was touching, the suspense of the plot was full of peril, intrigue, and murder which only enhanced the story. Rather than feeling disjointed, the romance and suspense elements of the story really blended well together as we got the point of view of multiple characters. I was breathless with anticipation as I wondered what Vanessa’s ex would do next and let’s just say that I wasn’t disappointed. He was the perfect villain. Actions from other secondary characters also enhanced the plot and led to some interesting moments and encounters. All of this led to a stunning finale that was perfect for the story.

In addition to intriguing plot, the well-crafted characters of this story really stood out to me and I applaud the author for a job well-done. With her words she brought these characters to life and made me care about all of them. Each character from the hero and heroine to the secondary characters to the villain of the story fascinated me and made me want to know more. I felt that they were all perfect for their roles in the plot.

A strong romance, fascinating characters, and plot full of suspense…this story had it all. I enjoyed every minute of this wonderful story and to Ms. Cary, I say “Bravo!” This is one that I have no qualms about recommending.
