The prince usually saves the girl but can the girl save the prince?

Fifteen years ago, sorceress Arlana created something evil. It now threatens to destroy the kingdom she calls home. To defeat it, she must fulfill her destiny. Not only does the future of the realm hang in the balance, so does the life of her beloved Prince Garrett.

Magic, treachery and loyalty gives Prince Garrett reason to doubt, to resist...and love Arlana. When she asks him to set honor aside and tie his blood with hers, can he sort through the scars left on his heart and accept the obstinate sorceress?

Is love enough to save a kingdom in crisis?

A magic connection born of true love becomes Arlana’s conduit for transferring life’s breath in order to save a kingdom and Prince Garrett, the love of her life. As a sorceress, she begins to use her power at the age of four and chooses to pay the price it costs her as she continues working in secret to help others. Arlana is an alluring personality.

Prince Garrett, Arlana’s childhood playmate, is now a war-weary knight after five years of fighting. His faith in Arlana’s abilities brings about a preemptive strike against traitors in his father’s court. Duty demands that he leave her and secure the safety of the kingdom before he considers his own wishes regarding this enchantress who makes him feel complete. Later, he too discovers a magic connection as he searches for Arlana.

"Life's Breath," while short and smooth reading, does the reader out of the story by telling rather than showing at times. However, it takes the reader straight to the essence of the story. No lengthy description of battles, court intrigues, or sub plots interfere with the emergence of physical and emotional awareness between Arlana and Garrett. Nancy Wald invites the reader into the lives of Arlana and Garrett with just enough action from the secondary characters and the magic to reveal their seemingly pre-destined love—a love which entailed tremendous risk.

"Life's Breath" is an delightful short tale—a breath of fresh air. This happy-ever-after story is a wonderful respite from the hustle and bustle of the mundane world. It lets the reader escape to a magical place for a time.
