Elizabeth had turned down Galen’s offer of marriage nearly a year ago. Having grown up in the foster-care world of broken promises, bleak reality, and bitter fighting, she sees marriage as a trap. When she agrees to adopt her foster-sister’s infant son, she promises to do the best she can as a single mother.
But when the adoption is challenged by the boy’s seedy bio-dad, Elizabeth is told by her attorney that marriage would strengthen her position as the adoptive mother. With Galen ready and willing to assume the baby is his, Elizabeth takes a deep breath…and lies.
Can she overcome this fear of marriage in order to keep the baby? One thing is clear: she won’t abandon her son without a fight…even a dirty one.
How can there be a second chance after a brutal rejection and a humongous lie is the underlying fear that propels this short love story.
Galen, a too-good-to-be-true person, jumps to a conclusion – a conclusion Elizabeth allows to go unchallenged while she hopes for the best.
Some of the secondary characters force Galen and Elizabeth to face difficult issues that kept their relationship from realizing its full potential. Some of these issues, grounded in events of Elizabeth’s childhood, hinder her ability to mature emotionally.
WHAT HAPPENED IN ABBITY PARK is predictable but so readable. The characters are stereotypical but if the reader has juggled caring for a newborn baby with building a professional career and keeping a household going, then she will surely recognize the many happenings that make this story quite true to life.
Ms. Patricia Moore’s style of writing is smooth reading making the novel a wonderful story to rejuvenate one’s belief in the ultimate goodness of people and their ability to forgive and love unconditionally. WHAT HAPPENED IN ABBITY PARK is truly a happy-ever-after story.
