Raelene Strattford knows God has promised never to leave or forsake her. But after the catastrophic deaths of her parents, she doesn't believe it. What kind of God would take a girl's family and leave her alone in a wild land where women have no voice? Gustaf Hanssen has admired Raelene from afar for a while, but his poor attempt at courting her in the past has made him unwelcome in her life. When Gustaf promises Raelene's dying father that he will take care of her, he finds himself bound to her happiness, her success, and her well-being in ways he never imagined. To keep his word must Gustaf really oversee all of Raelene's affairs, find her a husband, and maintain her farm, while she does nothing but scorn him? Can God reach through Raelene's pain and self-centeredness and give her the love that awaits, if only she will accept His will?

Amber Miller’s Promises, Promises is the first book in her series, Brides of Delaware. It is an intense, emotional tale of struggle, heartache and pain, and the hope that can be found in faith and love.

Raelene and Gustaf are both faced with the challenge of keeping promises made to a friend and loved one. Raelene has promised to keep her father’s dream alive and Gustaf has promised to assist and care for the woman who rejected him. Forced together by their mutual desire to fulfill a dying man’s wishes, these two must work as a team while fighting the growing attraction between them.

I loved watching Raelene and Gustaf wrestle with their untimely attraction. Raelene was a feisty young woman, out to prove that by her own abilities she could make her father’s dream come true. Her life has been torn apart and her faith shattered. Enter Gustaf. Strong, honorable, capable, gentle, shy - he is a man of strong character and faith. I loved watching as he worked hard to keep his promise without allowing his own desires to drive him. There is a delicious and tangible chemistry between these characters that keeps you reading, hoping and aching for them. There are laugh-out-loud moments and moments where you will catch your breath. It’s simply wonderful.

As an avid reader, I find I come across a lot of stories that have similar story lines and conflict. I found this book refreshing in its uniqueness and enjoyed the little unexpected twists that kept popping up in the story. It completely surprised and delighted me and left me anxious and excited for book two.

Wow! How did I miss this review back in July? Sorry about that. I tried to make it to all the sites that posted reviews, but obviously this one flew under the radar. :)

Thanks so much for a glowing review and the spotlight on this debut novel. Books 2 and 3 are now out as well if you're interested. Check my web site for ordering information.

Really appreciate the review. I'd be nowhere in my writing without readers like you!
