Review: Redeemed in Darkness

REDEEMED IN DARKNESS
by Alexis Morgan

A female leader from the Other world, Lusahn q'Arc can't forget the Paladin warrior she met in battle--his chiseled body and piercing, thoughtful eyes still haunt her dreams. When Lusahn learns that her missing brother Barak is alive and working with the enemy, she arranges to meet him--but it is not Barak who apears, but Cullen Finley, the Paladin who torments her memory. Intense attraction instantly burns between them despite their rival loyatlies, and they can't help surrendering to passion. Yet their time together is limited, for soon Cullen must return to his own world--with or without Lusahn. But when carefully laid plans go awry, they must fight for their forbidden love--and to keep one another alive.

This is the fourth in Alexis Morgan’s wonderful Paladin series. It’s the story of a race of warriors who exist outside our knowledge, protecting our world from the murderous Others who seek the light of our world. They cross the Barrier, which is located underground around the world at fault lines. Seismic activity can be a real problem and often brings the barrier temporarily down, allowing these Others to cross into our world. The only thing defending us is the Paladins.

We found out in the second book that not all Others are bad. Then the hero in the third book is an Other male. This book focuses on Cullen Finley, a Paladin warrior nicknamed The Professor by his friends because he’s always so measured, cool and predictable. Well, he’s taken a gamble and done the most reckless thing he could have. Cullen has crossed the Barrier. He only has a short time there, but he learns a lot. He learns more about the blue stone trafficking and the corruption that exists on both sides of the Barrier. He also learns that Lusahn is worth loving and fighting for.

I really liked this story and the characters. Many of them I’ve had three previous books to get to know and they were built upon nicely in this book. Cullen was great to get to know better –- especially in such a way that he’s defying previous expectations of himself. He is still cool and measured, but he is also passionate and fierce. I loved that dichotomy. Lusahn is a warrior, and she lives her life as such. When Cullen comes into her life it goes against everything for her to want him, much less want to be with him. I felt her emotions and confusion over the developments in this book were very believable. I also loved the way she was so strong, but still feminine. She and Cullen are quite a pair.

I would definitely recommend this entire series to anyone who loves strong alpha males, and the women who tame them . . . a little. This book would lack some of the depth without the backstory I’ve come to know and love from the previous books, so I suggest reading the earlier books in the series. This is a fun, sexy adventure in another world, but one with purpose and meaning where the stakes couldn’t be higher.

This one sounds good. I hate it when I finish a good book so it's great to know this one is part of a series.

This book sounds really good, but I wouldn't read it only because it's the fourth in the series and it would drive me nuts not knowing what happened before.
